contemporary RUSTIC.

NEW ALBANY, OHIO

A New Albany couple contacted us for professional architectural services.  They had worked with a design company that was not able to complete their project in a timely manner and their project stalled.  They were frustrated, disappointed, and looking for a resolution to their situation.  They felt stuck and had not made any progress for over a year.  Understandably, they were highly motivated to move forward with their project.

From the very first meeting we had with this couple, they were appreciative of our services and the fact that we were involved with their project.  The couple has a beautiful one acre partially wooded country property with a ravine meandering along the South side of the house.  The house was a small 70’s era 2-story residence with three bedrooms, two full baths, and a partially finished basement with an attached garage.  The floor plans were compartmentalized typical of that period.  The couple loves their property, but their family was very cramped living in the house.  They desired a farm style exterior aesthetic with better flow between living spaces - an open floor concept.

The project involved an addition and renovation to meet all their family’s needs.  With careful consideration and a thorough design process, we achieved the right solution for their unique situation.  A second story master suite was added above their existing garage and the living room.  We added a shed roof clerestory dormer providing volume and overhead natural light and eliminating direct neighboring views on a south facing elevation and French door Juliette balcony providing controlled openings for fresh air and long-views outside of the space in the master bedroom.  The living room was extended on the rear of the house with a second floor walk out deck above the living room.  They also desired to renovate feature first floor rooms of the house.  The existing small kitchen was separated by walls from the formal dining room.  The kitchen was expanded, and a large island was added.  The walls separating the kitchen and dining room were removed, transforming the spaces into one large open area providing a more direct connection while cooking or entertaining.  Two large sliding glass patio doors were added on the South end of the kitchen and dining area providing a panoramic view to the ravine.  An open-air covered porch was added around three sides of the house as well.

The project transformed the residence inside and out. The farm style home has loads of curb appeal and has much more functionality as well as amenities.  The couple was thrilled with the results and even broke down in tears thanking us for helping make their dream a reality.  The before and after photos demonstrate their home transformation!  We are honored they sought us out and included us for the planning and design of their project.  We enjoyed working with them on this successful project and seeing their dreams become reality.
